Does everyone love John Dory's?

The Man and I headed off to John Dory's Canal Walk for an impromptu lunch the other day .We ordered our drinks and some half price sushi to start.

The sushi wasn't bad, pretty standard the only comments that passed between us was that the soya sauce was very salty. Much saltier that what we are used to having at other restaurants.

We both opted for the daily special of hake and chips for R25. Bargain! When it arrived grilled as requested we noted the pieces being a bit small, but in the end we decided they were actually the perfect size for a lunch time meal. Very tasty and cooked well. Half way through eating our meal the manageress walked passed our table and rather loudly addressed her staff with “ Please, please you MUST wash your hands!” . She was talking to the sushi chefs. A look of absolute horror passed between The Man and I.

Do we want to be eating at a restaurant where the staff need to be reminded to wash their hands because they are working with raw fish!! Also should the manageress be shouting this kind of thing front of house in front of customers!?

I don't think we will be back for some time. If ever.

Join the Joyride!!

Tonight we go to watch Roxette perform at the Grand West Casino. I have been a Roxette fan since primary school days when my friends and I would spend our break times singing their songs and performing our own little made up moves! Am I embarrassed by this memory? Not at all!! Looking back on those times, I think they were awesome! Today's youth don't have the kind of fun we had back then ( Geez I sound like my dad!!! ). It's sad, but true... not that I sound like my dad ;) but that so much innocence has been lost.
Well come on then!! Let's hit that road out of nowhere!! Join the joyride!!

Weekend Wanderings

My Man and I went exploring this Sunday, we wandered through Mouille Point. What we found was pretty impressive, who knew that Cape Town had it's very own Biodiversity Garden. It was great seeing families relaxing in Green Point Park, which is where the Biodiversity Garden is hidden.
What would a trip to Mouille Point be without going to see the lighthouse? It is the oldest operational lighthouse in the country, built in the 1800's.
Next we took a lovely walk along the promenade and discovered a maze! We paid our R20 each and were dutifully told the history of mazes and how "young lovers" are to find each other in the center of the maze and embrace, by the elderly gentleman at the pay booth. We headed off each in a separate direction and with a bit of waiting around in the middle, My Man found me. It was a very novel experience and while not quite what we held in our minds as a traditional maze, this one was certainly a true "Only In Africa" kind of maze :)

What an awesome day spent in fantastic company, this little hidden treasure is something we would recommend as a way to spend a Sunday. There is even a putt putt golf course next to the maze.

First week of living the dream

Having never been much of the "house wife" kind of girl, I've spent the better part of this first week spring cleaning our little house! I have a whole new appreciation for My Man's mother's Kirby!! Wow does that little baby suck!

My Man and I were discussing last night over a lovely dinner of chicken korma wraps I made, how perhaps I may have a few of my mothers traits after all. Funny how as you get older the more of your parents you see in yourself.  Luckily I don't mind having a slightly milder case of cleanliness than my mom. An adventurous and more open minded spirit like my dad. In my opinion my parents did a good job in raising myself and my siblings and we owe them so much.

I look forward to making a functional working space in the spare room today, turning it into a little office. Tomorrow is all about taking out a  retirement policy and going to see a movie with a friend. This is what it's all about - every day is different and does not consist of sitting in a cubicle behind a desk.

Smell the freedom

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Again.

I thought that 2010 was the year that I challenged myself and my comfort zones. The year to do crazy fantastic things, for new beginnings, for making the world my oyster and for living my ultimate fairytale. Well it seems that things are spilling over into 2011 a bit unexpectedly and probably a lot sooner than I thought possible.

I have left the comfort and frankly ,the utter boredom of a corporate full time job filled with stress and bureaucracy , for a chance to simply wake up in the morning with a smile on my face!
I am going into business with the man of my dreams, the one that in fact  made 2010 such a balls-to-the-wall kind of year to begin with! That is a story for another time.

I am trading in the suit for the freedom to decide when and how I want things done. Will life now be stress-free, no. Will I be in total control of how I choose to deal with that stress, yes. Will the amount of hard work and effort I put in everyday directly affect my back pocket, YES! Do I have to deal with management and basically the utter stupidity of some procedures and have others waste my time, hell no!!!

If anything 2010 taught me that life is too short to settle for second best. That being happy and content is the most import factor for a successful life. It is not about the amount of financial gain, it's about waking up with that elusive smile on my face and loving the place I am in my life right THIS minute. If you want something make it happen. Be positive and don't procrastinate.
